A leading sustainable battery materials company which is committed to investing in new technologies for automotive platforms are looking for a Head of Applications and Testing to support product development, process scale-up and operational automotive quality requirements.
The Role
• Build-out and lead existing multi-site Application Testing team; accountable for the User Requirement Specifications for the Application Centre Capital expansion plan (incl. multi-scale electrode formation, battery assembly and testing)
• Evolve internal analytical and electrochemical Quality Control procedures to achieve best-in-class; champion importance to product commercialisation with a rigorous, traceable and timeline-conscious mindset
• Collaborate closely with the Commercial and Product development teams to determine customer requirements and coordinate Application testing-associated activities. Responsible for ensuring that testing methodologies minimise programme shoot-out iterations by seeking parity with customer testing standards
• Support the Commercial team as a technical expert and coordinate the Application teams` support of customers to steward successful handling of BM products
• Interact closely with the Technology Leadership team to facilitate commercialisation of new products and processes
• Lead ideation sessions, define innovation programmes and drive successful execution to build competitive advantage in Application Testing in line with business Playbook and NPI requirements
• Lead the development of best-in-class tools to bridge the gap between measured material properties and target on-board battery performance; leverage as a customer-facing tool
• Support the Technology and Business Development Director to evolve the Technology Roadmap; emphasis on performance bench-marking and view on value-add technology steps in the battery materials value chain
The Candidate
• Advanced technical degree required, preferably a Ph.D. in a related field
• Demonstrable experience in a business environment proving out the multi-scale performance attributes of battery materials, preferably lithium-ion, for real-world Applications (automotive will be viewed as advantageous); must act as an expert for the business and be recognised in the field
• Understanding of the scope of a staged roadmap for building tools (experimental and modelling) to bridge the gap between measured material properties and target on-board battery performance
• Experience building competencies and managing high-performing technical teams; preferably multi-site and global
• Experience interacting with external customers; track record of achieving best-in-class results in customer testing will be viewed as advantageous
• Ability to travel both domestically and internationally to support multi-site operations and customers
