General Manager

Recruiter: Jonathan Lee Recruitment
Location: Dudley, West Midlands
Salary: Attractive (+ Bonus + Pension)
Application date: 18th Oct 2017

Based in the West Midlands, working alongside the Business Development Director and reporting to the Managing Director, this new position of General Manager will require a candidate who has strong and relevant experience of manufacturing, producing and delivering a range of fabricated components and systems to engineering focused sectors. Operational exposure supported by a lean and continuous development focus is a pre-requisite. Wherever possible, the candidate should have welding and mechanical assembly manufacturing exposure.

Further core strengths required:

• Strategically and success driven
• Able to motivate and drive cultural change
• Have relevant academic qualifications and background
• Have commercial and business financial awareness
• Have manufacturing and operating standards; process and supply chain awareness
• Provide evidence of successful leadership experience
• Be focused on H&S, quality and customer service

This role will be challenging and is to support the immediate further strategic growth of an existing and established family organisation in the West Midlands. The General Manager will need to be confident, highly focused and be able to lead from the outset. However, they will also need to work closely with the organisation at all levels to enthuse and manage the teams during this period of change.

Although very much a strategic position for the further development of the business, this role will also focus on manufacturing performance and accuracy, supporting the needs of the customer base today, as well as tomorrow. The General Manager will work to ensure standards and customer requirements are met, as well as to support new product introduction and the organisations’ development into new sectors.

In summary, this role will require a candidate who has strong operations and production management experience ideally gained within a low and medium volume, high variety fabrication environment.

Candidates will have engineering or manufacturing qualifications to HND or degree level, and a thorough understanding of modern lean manufacturing tools and techniques. To complement this manufacturing knowledge, strong commercial and financial awareness will be required. Post graduate qualifications in management or an MBA would be an advantage but not essential.

This role has an opportunity to provide a long-term return for the successful candidate and will therefore require a hands-on and dedicated approach.
