SDC delivers 40 new UK-built trailers to Forterra

Building products manufacturer Forterra has expanded its truck fleet by collaborating with semi-trailer manufacturer SDC Trailers. Forterra and SDC worked together to develop a twin Tridec rear steer design for the order of 40 new platform trailers, a move that Forterra says will support its logistics capabilities.

SDC Trailers has 45 years of industry experience and produces its trailers from four UK-based manufacturing locations. The new platform trailers will deliver a range of Forterra products including bricks, blocks, precast concrete and paving.

Rear steer trailers allow a trailer’s rear wheels to turn or steer in coordination with the front wheels of the towing vehicle. The purpose of a rear-steer system is to improve manoeuvrability and reduce the turning radius of a trailer. This can be especially useful in a tight space or when navigating sharp turns, making it easier for drivers to handle longer trailers. By doing so, rear-steer systems improve the overall safety and efficiency of the vehicle, particularly during complex manoeuvres and in busy urban sites.

Dale Clarke, national transport manager at Forterra, said: “The cutting-edge platform trailers from SDC have significantly improved our operational capabilities. Their advanced features and rear steer system allow us to navigate even the most challenging delivery sites with ease. We are confident that this investment will further support Forterra’s commitment to delivering quality building products efficiently.”

Matthew Duxbury, SDC Trailers regional sales manager, added: “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Forterra for this significant order; the new twin rear steer trailers are designed to meet and exceed their requirements, underscoring our commitment to supporting operational excellence. We look forward to a successful partnership that will contribute to Forterra’s continued success in the future.”
