Sheffield Forgemasters launches 2025 apprenticeship programme

Sheffield Forgemasters is looking to recruit 21 apprentices for 2025, as it builds its employment base at one of the world’s most advanced manufacturing facilities.

The recruitment is the first of two tranches to be announced for 2025. More places are due to be announced in the coming weeks as the company progresses a £900m investment to build a new 13,000 tonne forging line and a 30,000 m2 state-of-the-art machining facility.

Successful applicants will join the Ministry of Defence-owned company to participate in an apprenticeship scheme. They will receive fully funded training and work towards a professional qualification while getting paid.

Emily Wynne, people development advisor for early careers at Sheffield Forgemasters, said: “Our recapitalisation programme is well underway and we are seeking out the most capable and committed individuals to join our team at this transformative time. Sheffield Forgemasters has an exciting future following the MoD acquisition, and we are driving forward with a programme to create next-level engineering skill sets for defence and civil nuclear markets. Successful candidates will receive fully funded training, working towards a professional qualification whilst getting paid, and will have a future career in one of the most advanced engineering facilities of its kind.

“We are hoping to encourage candidates who have an eagerness to learn and build a career to apply for the roles, which will provide skills for life and excellent professional development. Our remit is to deliver higher levels of defence work and to advance manufacturing technologies for civil nuclear power and renewable energy markets. Apprenticeships have a positive effect on the success of a business and the workplace culture. In 2023, we were delighted to be recognised within the Department of Education’s Top 100 UK Apprenticeship Employers initiative and our retention rate for apprentices who complete their training is one of the highest in the country.”

Apprenticeship details are available on the Sheffield Forgemasters website (link below) for the following areas: production, maintenance, technical, health and safety, and office-based.

From its single UK site, Sheffield Forgemasters delivers comprehensive, end-to-end manufacturing of high-integrity forgings and castings.
