Atlas Copco launches its first TDV industrial fluid cooler
Atlas Copco has launched a new industrial fluid cooler designed to deliver optimal cooling efficiency and flexibility while reducing environmental impacts. The innovative TDV 01-06 series combines the energy-saving benefits of a dry fluid cooler with enhanced thermal efficiency provided by an adiabatic system. This offers customers an extremely flexible and energy efficient means of achieving optimal temperature regulation while enhancing the overall efficiency and performance of water-cooled equipment.
The TDV 01-06 A/AD series is suitable for cooling single or multiple water-cooled equipment and uses ambient air to effectively cool the water circuit and ensure that the desired temperature is consistently maintained. It includes an adiabatic option that can achieve water temperatures lower than the ambient air temperature using the evaporative properties of adiabatic pads. There is no process water consumption and no water spray in the air stream or on the coils, eliminating water stagnation and legionella risk.
The TDV’s control system automatically adjusts fan speed and humidification of the pads and switches between dry and adiabatic modes to optimise energy and water consumption, minimising environmental impacts and reducing running costs. By leveraging these features, the cooler not only guarantees optimal temperature regulation but also enhances the overall efficiency and performance of the water-cooled equipment.
The industrial cooler unit is constructed of galvanised steel with powder coating for excellent resistance to corrosive environments. Its modular design incorporates removable panels for easy inspection. The heat exchanger uses copper tubes and aluminium fins for optimal heat exchange and corrosion resistance. Axial fans with phase cut or variable speed drive (VSD) control ensure efficiency and noise reduction. The TDV’s adiabatic system is strategically placed to maximise surface area compared to the heat exchange coils, and the circulation pump is installed within the frame to conserve space.
This compact design accommodates configurations with internal pumps on board and installations coupled with Atlas Copco’s new TPC cooling fluid circulation systems or existing systems. This means that each TDV 01-06 A/AD fluid cooler can be tailored to meet the specific conditions of the installation site.
Explaining the inspiration behind the new cooler, Chris Ferriday, Business Line Manager, Process Cooling Solutions & Process Filtration, Atlas Copco Compressors UK says, “We are relentless in our pursuit of solutions that will reduce carbon emissions and deliver better performance for our customers. The new TDV industrial cooler can be deployed alongside our water-cooled compressors and uses the same MK5 controller, offering customers a total solution that is highly efficient and costs less to operate and maintain.”
A variety of options are available to customise the TDV, including UL versions, single or double onboard pumps, flanged connections, and remote-control capabilities.
