MBDA to create more than 500 new jobs
MBDA has announced a recruitment campaign that seeks to recruit more than 500 new people in the UK in 2021, including apprentices, graduates and experienced hires. It will host a number of careers events throughout the year to give candidates an opportunity to explore a variety of roles.
MBDA currently has a workforce of more than 4,500 located at its three main sites in Bristol, Bolton and Stevenage. The roles available span the breadth of MBDA’s departments and cover engineering, manufacturing, commercial, customer support, project management, procurement and supply chain.
As a defence company, there is understandably a willingness to recruit ex-service personnel. MBDA is signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and a gold award winner in its Employer Recognition Scheme, respective candidates with such a background have a specific virtual booth to find out about what MBDA can offer them. There will also be the opportunity for school and university leavers to find out about MBDA’s award-winning early careers, with apprenticeship and graduate schemes covering both the engineering and business sectors.
Chris Allam, MBDA UK managing director, said: “In the circumstances we all found ourselves in over the last year, we are very pleased that the strong business position we are in allows us to continue to recruit. Our work didn’t stop and neither did our people. They are at the heart of sustaining our business, especially as we adapted in response to the global pandemic. At MBDA, everyone has a role to play in delivering the capability that our armed forces need to defend our county and secure our freedoms.”
Aileen Randhawa, MBDA UK human resources director, added: “Last year, we successfully recruited over 500 people throughout an unprecedented period. Like many businesses, we adjusted many of our recruitment and new-starter processes, working dynamically to follow government guidelines and keep our people safe. From online applications to virtual interviews, assessments and inductions, our virtual careers events are our latest adaptation. We’re looking forward to being able to share what MBDA can offer prospective employees and help them find a career in defence that is right for them.”
As a trusted partner to the UK Ministry of Defence, MBDA is developing cutting-edge technology for some of the most innovative defence programmes protecting the country, including the first-of-class network-enabled miniature cruise missile SPEAR for the Royal Air Force, the ground and naval-based air defence systems Land Ceptor and Sea Ceptor for the British Army and Royal Navy respectively, and as part of Team Tempest working on a 6th-generation fighter jet and future combat air system.
