BCA Group plans job creation following investment

Caravan industry wiring systems and electrical components manufacturer, BCA Group, has outlined plans for further growth after completing a £2.7m expansion project – partly supported by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) – which has seen the construction of a purpose-built distribution warehouse and factory facility.

The new facility in Copley, West Yorkshire, has provided 30,000 sq ft of space for subsidiary Pennine Leisure Supplies and is assisting BCA Group to continue the growth of its caravan, motorhome and leisure accessories distribution division.

The investment, which included £200,000 from the LEP’s grant programme, is set to help create 21 new jobs over the next three years across the group in roles ranging from marketing to warehouse, assembly and manufacturing.

Adam Slater, managing director of BCA Group, said the business was continually innovating to help it meet its customers’ requirements and was looking to continue its diversification strategy into associated industries that require specialist services, including harnesses.

Adam said: “The support from the LEP in terms of grant funding, encouragement and guidance has been invaluable in ensuring this project went ahead and was completed successfully.

“As BCA Group is at the forefront of new designs and technology, it is crucial that our manufacturing facilities reflect this and meet our customers’ requirements. As such we’re delighted with the new production centre in Copley, which includes a state-of-the-art guidance racking system which has improved our productivity.

“The LEP grant helped to kick-start the project, but we have been extremely grateful and pleased with the ongoing support from the LEP and Calderdale Council.”

BCA Group was established in Mytholmroyd in 1981 as a caravan accessories distributor before moving to purpose-built facilities on Lowfields Business Park in 2001. The business subsequently diversified and expanded further into the manufacturing of harnesses and other ancillary items and today is an industry leader in the manufacture of wiring systems and electrical components to the caravan industry.

It supplies all of the UK’s major caravan and motorhome manufacturers and employs more than 150 people across three sites in Calderdale.

Following the completion of the facility and in order to meet ongoing demand, BCA Group has embarked on a further expansion project that will see its manufacturing capacity increase further with the addition of an additional 7,160 sq ft of space.

Andrew Wright, Chair of the LEP Business, Innovation and Growth (BIG) Panel, added: “BCA Group is a well-established business that through a relentless focus on innovation continues to go from strength to strength.

“Investment in modern, market leading facilities such as this distribution warehouse and factory in Copley not only keeps BCA Group at the forefront of its sector but will also create jobs, benefiting the local and regional economies. I am delighted that the LEP has been able to play a part in supporting BCA in their exciting next step.”

Cllr Tim Swift, Leader of Calderdale Council, concluded: “BCA Group’s investment in these production facilities is a signal of long-term confidence in Calderdale. Calderdale Council has been delighted to support the company in its expansion plans and help it to bring forward its exciting growth plans.”
