The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story – created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Chief Engineer – Power. The purpose of the role is to establish the MTC as a key R&D player in the growth of the Power sector in the UK. For clarity this will include all energy related technologies, nuclear, renewables and relevant support in utilities such as gas/electricity distribution and water supply.
It will be imperative to demonstrate an ability to maximise order intake for the business whilst providing a high level of technical competence to help grow this nascent sector for the MTC.
The Role
Duties and responsibilities of the Chief Engineer – Power include:
Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Power sector in the UK, including market size, industry players, market trends, SWOT info, etc
Building a technology roadmap with support and buy-in from influential external stakeholders and helping to educate the MTC engineering teams
Gaining an in-depth understanding of relevant Government programmes, support initiatives, white papers, etc anything that is likely to provide mechanisms for allowing MTC to support/partner major change programmes
Managing the relationship between MTC and industrial clients to help grow their individual spend with us as well as identifying larger collaborative opportunities that they can get involved in with other members
Maintaining sound knowledge of all current and future external funding research programmes (via Innovate UK, Horizon2020, and any other relevant funding agencies) and helping to decide which ones MTC should be active in
Supporting the Strategic Development Director in building business cases for high value government backed bids (£25m+)
The Person
The Chief Engineer – Power will have / be:
10+ years background in energy related industries
Highly technically competent with strong engineering related competency
Proven track record of securing new accounts and winning new business
Proven and demonstrable track record of delivering order growth
Excellent relationship management skills
Ability to develop relationships at all levels of an organisation to deliver top line growth
Understanding of public sector funding mechanisms
Strong commercial and financial awareness
