Jonathan Petch, Chief Executive Officer of Thurston Group, said: “Today’s opening takes place against the backdrop of an uprising in the building industry, where modern methods of construction are increasingly being embraced.

“Faster, cost-effective and more flexible, there is now a huge amount of support for modular construction’s ability to address many of the challenges we face in terms of supply and demand for accommodation in both the public and private sectors.

Thurston’s are a leading provider of premium quality modular and portable buildings for use in every industry and market sector, including health, education, transport, construction, defence, and housing. With the core strengths of the business being in the design and manufacture of a wide range of exceptional specialist buildings, including eco-buildings, blast and fire-resistant buildings, pre-fitted gatehouses and pre-finished ready-to-install bathrooms along with a new residential offering.

Matthew Goff, Managing Director for Thurston’s, added that Hull’s critical mass of industry, together with the area’s skilled workforce, were key reasons for choosing the city for its latest manufacturing facility.

“Thurston’s are delighted to be establishing its latest manufacturing facility and generating employment in Hull. “Initially, 60 new jobs are being created, and this number will rise over the next 12 months.

“We look forward to operating from our new Hull base and to playing an active role in the locality in the years ahead.”

A further larger manufacturing facility means an increase in output, but also an increase in efficiency. Thurston Group have two other factories, Wakefield and Catfoss producing at 100% capacity, adding the Hull site allows the business to grow further and double its turnover in the next three years.
