Young engineers in pole position at annual norelem Race Camp

With future demand for engineers outstripping supply, one manufacturer is investing in young engineering talent after hosting its second annual Race Camp, held at the race track in Steiβlingen, Germany in June.

The two-day norelem sponsored event saw 14 teams from across Europe come together to finalise their preparations for the next round of the Formula Student competition. As part of this, students were given access to track facilities as well as norelem’s range of more than 33,000 standard components in a bid to ensure that vehicles were in peak condition ahead of the event. Formula Student is an international competition which brings together some of the Europe’s best and brightest budding engineers to design, build and race their own cars.

In addition to providing logistical support to the participants involved in Formula Student, engineering experts from norelem are also offering feedback and advice on engineering best practice. At a time when the UK is facing a severe technical skills shortage, events such as this are helping to nurture the next generation of engineers.

Commenting on norelem’s Race Camp, its CEO Marcus Schneck explained: “Our event is a great way for young engineers to gain valuable experience and knowledge that will help them in their future careers. The wider aim of competitions like Formula Student is to equip the next generation of talent with the skills and experience necessary to meet the demands of industry, and we are extremely proud to be part of this mission. The motivation, professionalism and determination of the participants was plain to see, and we look forward to continuing to work with young engineers in the future.”
