Sedamyl creates new jobs to support expansion

Selby-based family-run agribusiness Sedamyl is to create up to 75 new jobs and support hundreds more in the supply chain, as part of an £80m investment announced earlier this year. The firm is recruiting for a variety of roles including shift operators and logistics staff, along with lab technicians, mechanics, and engineers.

In February, Sedamyl – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of proteins, alcohol, starches, and sweeteners – announced plans for an £80m expansion investment at its Yorkshire plant. As well as recruitment opportunities, the expansion plans will see the Italian-owned firm double UK potable alcohol capacity, add new lines for the production of liquid sweeteners, and provide an increased market for wheat grown by local farmers.

In the past decade, Sedamyl’s workforce has expanded from just 40 people in 2012 to nearly 100 in 2021. The firm says it has a strong reputation for delivering career development opportunities, delivering impressively high staff retention rates within its diverse team.

Elena Frandino, managing director at Sedamyl UK and a member of the family that has owned the business for 60 years, said: “Over the years we have built a solid reputation in Selby and are now a major local employer, and that is all down to our incredible team of dedicated staff. Ross Glover has worked at Sedamyl for seven years, spending time as a shift operator before becoming a technical operator.
