Work begins on new KLA manufacturing site in South Wales

Trebor Developments has exchanged a development agreement with KLA Corporation, a US-based manufacturer of equipment used in the electronics manufacturing industry, to develop its new high-tech manufacturing, R&D and office facility in Newport, South Wales.

As reported in October 2022, the 210,000 sq ft facility represents an investment of more than £80m* ($100m) by KLA, providing a new state-of-the-art innovation centre and manufacturing facility that will accommodate up to 750 employees.

The new innovation centre will provide over 25,000 square feet of cleanrooms for R&D and more than 35,000 square feet of bespoke manufacturing assembly halls.

Trebor has appointed Andrew Scott Ltd as the main contractor, with work on site commencing in January 2023 and completion expected in early 2025. Completion of specialist technical manufacturing fit-out for KLA will follow.

Bob Tattrie, managing partner of Trebor, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as developer for this prestigious project. A great deal of effort has taken place by all parties to bring the project forward on a fast-track basis and reach the stage of implementation on site. We look forward to working with KLA and Andrew Scott Ltd to deliver the construction phase. We are honoured to be supporting KLA in their UK expansion, with this very significant project.”

*KLA made the original announcement as $100m USD investment – due to ongoing currency fluctuations, £80m is an estimate based on exchange rates on the day of publishing.
