Jokey Group opens new UK factory

Plastic product manufacturer Jokey Group has begun production at a newly-built factory in Corby following a £17.3m* (€20m) investment. The new production facility will operate under the name of Jokey UK and is the 16th plant to be opened by international firm Jokey Group.

Jokey UK will produce injection-moulded packaging products for the local UK market. The production capacities are to be adapted to customer requirements and gradually expanded.

Jokey says its new UK site will operate to the latest technical standards using high performance equipment to enable maximum energy efficiency. On the almost 24,000 square metre factory site in Corby, four newly-built raw material silos have been installed. Next to them are the newly commissioned production halls, which take up about half of the total area of the facility.

Existing disused production facilities on the acquired site were converted and modernised to create space for the initial machines and equipment onsite. By using existing buildings, Jokey was able to shorten construction times compared to a new building, a conversion consumes significantly less building materials and fossil fuels.

Dennis Lieth, managing director for Jokey UK, said: “The UK is an important sales market for Jokey. By investing in our own production site, we can, on the one hand, respond even better to the needs of our British customers than before and, on the other hand, not only strengthen but expand our market position locally.”

Thomas Becker, COO of the Jokey Group, added: “We have achieved our ambitious goal of starting production in only 11 months of conversion time after purchasing the property in Corby. The realisation of this difficult task was possible above all thanks to the dedicated commitment of the entire Jokey UK team under the leadership of our operations manager at the Gummersbach plant, Frank Diesterbeck and our project manager Pia Linne. The start of production in the UK is a positive signal for our British customers.”

*Jokey made the original announcement as around €20m in Euros – due to ongoing currency fluctuations, £17.3m is an estimate based on exchange rates on the day of publishing.
