Range Rover launches first ever electric model
Range Rover has launched its first fully electric model, marking a major milestone in its electrification programme. Built in Solihull, the home of Range Rover since 1970, this debut electric model represents the brand’s shift toward a zero-emissions future.
To support production of the Range Rover Electric, JLR has transformed its Solihull manufacturing facility, combining advanced manufacturing, digital technology and a major investment in electrification skills. Powering this transformation, 9,000 manufacturing employees in Solihull have now been upskilled for electrification, with a further 1,500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands footprint.
Its upgraded Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton will support Range Rover Electric production. The site now produces battery packs and electric drive units alongside internal combustion engines, making it the UK’s largest internal combustion engine and electric powertrain production facility.

The first phase of redevelopment in Wolverhampton covers 40,000m2 and has required more than two million hours of planning, engineering, construction and commissioning over four years. The transformation has added 13 battery and electric drive unit manufacturing lines, supported by nine kilometres of conveyors and 182 kilometres of power and data cabling.
Advanced AI‑enabled scanning cameras are integrated into the quality checking process during electric drive unit manufacturing, ensuring critical components fit perfectly. Additionally, every battery cell is performance‑tested before insertion into a battery pack, which is again assessed for assembly integrity and performance before it’s fitted to a Range Rover Electric at Solihull.

Range Rover creates significant value across the UK and Europe. Its production in Solihull supports thousands of businesses, with more than two‑thirds of supplier spend directed to UK and European suppliers.”

Range Rover Electric features twin permanent magnet 260kW electric motors generating up to 550PS and 850Nm of torque, and sprinting from 0–60mph in 4.3 seconds. The majority of Range Rover clients will be able to complete their typical daily journeys without the need to recharge, with a range of up to 372 miles (WLTP), and a real‑world range of up to 333 miles. When connected to the fastest available public chargers, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes.

We took our testing and development programmes even further than originally intended to ensure Range Rover Electric is genuinely the most accomplished Range Rover ever.”

Range Rover Electric has undergone global testing and development, with tests in ‑40°C temperatures in Arjeplog, Sweden, the heat of the Dubai desert, and JLR’s own Eastnor Castle facility in the UK. It has completed over 1.5 million kilometres and over a quarter of a million hours of testing in the virtual and physical worlds.
New technologies maximise its electric potential. Innovative range prediction features and an advanced ThermAssistTM heat management system optimise driving range, charging speeds, battery longevity and performance in extreme temperatures, adding up to 25 miles of range and a 40% reduction of heating energy use.
Over 300 patent applications have been filed for Range Rover Electric – the most for a single vehicle in the brand’s history. The new model is available in the UK starting from £154,070 OTR.
