JLR unveils new Jaguar all-electric Type 01

The new Jaguar Type 01 has been unveiled in New York, offering a first look at the brand’s all-electric transformation. Designed, engineered, and built in the UK, production is set to begin in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull operations using a dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Electric drive units (EDUs) and battery packs will be made in Wolverhampton, with pressed body panels manufactured in Halewood, Merseyside. Work on the production lines is already at an advanced stage.

The launch of Type 01 marks a major milestone in the strategy JLR first set out for Jaguar in 2021. It establishes a distinct role for Jaguar within JLR’s wider portfolio alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery, enabling the brand to target a new luxury segment while supporting long-term growth and investment.

Since announcing its £15‑18bn five‑year investment programme in 2024, JLR has invested £11.5bn in engineering, designing and manufacturing its next‑generation vehicles, with most of this investment spent in the UK.

This investment is also supporting the long‑term future of skilled automotive employment in the UK. Nearly 9,000 employees at JLR’s Solihull site have been retrained to build electric vehicles, alongside a further 1,500 colleagues across JLR’s wider West Midlands operations.

Jaguar production will also support thousands of businesses across the UK’s automotive supply chain, including the 60,000 jobs sustained by JLR’s wider supplier network in the West Midlands.

PB Balaji, CEO, JLR, said: “The unveiling of Type 01 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Jaguar. Combining British heritage, bold creativity, advanced technology and groundbreaking engineering, it reflects our ambition to create objects of desire that will help us invite a new generation of clients into Jaguar’s loyal and passionate customer base.

“Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar is a copy of nothing and is a vital part of JLR’s growth story, strengthening our House of Brands strategy and supporting long‑term investment in British innovation, manufacturing and skills.”

• An 850‑volt electrical architecture and 118kWh usable battery deliver an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles.
• Adds up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes using 350kW rapid DC charging.
• Up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm accelerating from 0‑62mph in 3.2 seconds.

Customers will be able to order Type 01 in early 2027, with prices starting from £130,000 GBP.
