Furniture manufacturer invests £8m in new HQ and factory
Huddersfield-based furniture manufacturer Connection is moving to a brand new £8m purpose-built building, which will incorporate its head office, showroom and manufacturing facility under one roof.
The new 45,000 sq ft site will house a state-of-the-art design and upholstery facility, as well as a new advanced manufacturing line.
As part of a planned strategy to capitalise on recent sales growth, Connection says the new site will give it the capacity to meet the increasing demand coming from both the UK markets and global export, particularly a recent swell in interest from Europe and the Middle East.
Andy Brook, operations director at Connection, said: “We have a highly skilled workforce and we wanted to ensure we retained that talent and knowledge, so it was important for us to stay within the Kirklees region to harness that talent, create new jobs and continue our portfolio expansion plans. The new facility will allow us the opportunity to furnish our production space with a new suite of equipment, allowing us to further boost capacity across manufacturing lines. We will upgrade to state-of-the-art bar-coding systems and introduce further efficiencies in the packaging stages of production with a big emphasis on the environment and reducing cardboard waste.”
Kelvin Bromley, managing director at Connection, added: “Over the last few years we have seen demand for agile commercial furniture soar, and we knew that we were fast approaching the time where we needed to move to a larger facility. When the UK entered lockdown last year, this demand accelerated even more rapidly, as many businesses introduced new methods of working and wanted to adapt their spaces to facilitate this. Moving to the new site will really help propel Connection forwards and ensure we can meet the ever-increasing demands of our customers here within the UK and internationally.”
