Investment helps Specialist Glass Products increase capacity by 80%

Huddersfield-based, Specialist Glass Products, has more than doubled its production capacity following the installation of a new state-of-the-art glass furnace.

The furnace, representing an investment of £120,000, has not only increased the production capacity of the business by 80% but also allows Specialist Glass Products to laminate glass sizes up to 6000mm by 32000mm. This means that SGP is now one of the only glass manufacturers in the UK to be able to produce pieces of laminated glass in this size, enabling them to be extremely competitive in this market sector.

Andrew Taylor, Managing Director at Specialist Glass Products, said: “The installation of the new furnace is the final piece of the jigsaw that we have been working on for the past few years. We are eager now to increase our production to meet our clients’ needs in the continuously evolving glass industry.”

The installation of the new furnace follows on from significant investment from Specialist Glass Products within its business. The last three years have seen £5.5million invested including more than doubling the factory size and bringing in further equipment to allow SGP to remain at the forefront of innovation and research and development in its sector.

Although being the only one of its kind and size in the UK, the furnace installation and subsequent operation required no extra training for the Specialist Glass Products staff as their expertise in glass lamination allows them to operate the equipment with ease.

The new high-tech equipment and additional working space have effectively quadrupled the company’s production capacity over the past 36 months, ensuring that SGP can not only meet the requirements of larger projects but can also produce glass in the most cost-effective way.
