The Role
The Engineering Manager – Modelling and Simulation role will be responsible for providing leadership to the Modelling and Simulation department that sits within the Digital Engineering technology group.

You will be accountable to the Group Resource Manager for the delivery of your role, with a dotted-line reporting to the Business Unit Lead for the department. You will be expected to work closely with the Business Unit lead and the Group Resource Manager and collaboratively with the wider departmental leadership teams within the Modelling and Simulation to deliver departmental, group and business objectives.

It is envisioned that the role will split between delivering the resource management function alongside supporting projects in your area of expertise.

For the associated pool of colleagues, the role requires leadership and management in the specific areas of resource development, resource deployment and line management.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Resource Development
For the associated pool of colleagues:
Oversee career development and ensure alignment with the organisation‘s needs.
Ensure that the departmental skills and competency profile is in line with the MTC‘s strategic objectives

Resource Deployment
For the associated pool of colleagues:
Represent your business unit within the Resource Management function
Work collaboratively within the function to ensure strategic and optimal deployment of engineering resource across portfolio of industrial and technology sector projects. Aspects include deployment of appropriate skillsets to projects to ensure that delivery is carried out with consideration to project impact, cost, and opportunities for skills development.
Provide additional resource consistent with the technology group‘s make-buy policy through recruitment, use of member‘s in-kind contributions and deployment of resources through the MTC‘s resource partners.

Line Management
For the associated pool of colleagues:
Provide day-to-day line management of your first line reports.
Ensure that engineers are able to work in an environment that aligns to the MTC‘s RIGHT way of working. To address any issues of conflict or capability in a timely, impartial and appropriate manner.
Ensure that MTC work is carried out in the RIGHT way, ensuring that the values of quality, cost, time and impact are instilled in the manner of delivery.
Ensure that effective communication of business updates is carried out in a timely, consistent manner through all levels of the business.
Be a point of escalation for any people, performance and resource issues relevant to the team. Use a radical candour approach to manage team members to align outputs with the required objectives and performance levels. Be a source of coaching and mentoring up, down and across the team structure

The Person
The successful candidate for the role of Engineering Manager – Modelling and Simulation will have/be:

Ideally, you will be a degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist, or mathematician, have an understanding of the breadth of Engineering technologies and their respective manufacturing industrial applications across the Technology theme. You will have a range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role.
You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tactical direction of the business; Where required, advise technical leads and teams on projects to provide technical leadership and guidance in area of expertise (for example, any topic within Modelling and Simulation or the Digital engineering space ) to mitigate issues and risks to achieve a positive outcome for MTC and its customers
Commercially aware; Able to think strategically; Adept at using micro-soft toolset: Word, PowerPoint & Excel.
