This well-established, global manufacturing business is going through a period of renewed growth after going through a phase of consolidation during the pandemic. They are seeing growth in most sectors they work in, and because of this are looking for leadership in their procurement function. We are working with them to recruit an exceptional Purchasing Manager with solid understanding of the aerospace and aligned industries.
As a key member of the Management Team, this position will provide leadership, and vision to the Purchasing Team and will manage all procurement activity for the site, including direct and indirect categories. Major spend commodities are raw materials, subcontract manufacturing and machining.
A long-term strategic view is also required to guide the business towards further growth and protection from wider purchasing and supply chain issues caused by the pandemic legacy. It will require a leader with an exceptional business mind, who is able to succeed in both strategic procurement leadership operating in local and global markets. The Purchasing Manager must therefore lead the team through personal involvement while providing business strategy, tactical advice and mentoring, all of which will ensure success.
The Purchasing Manager is strategically responsible for directing the Purchasing department activities and the day to day running and motivation of the small team.
You will drive positive supplier relationships, to ensure quality, cost and delivery are always met, whilst mitigating risk from supplier and material shortages.
Qualifications and Requirements
Purchasing managerial experience in the supply chain in a manufacturing/ engineering environment, ideally aerospace.
Qualified to CIPS Degree Level.
In depth knowledge of ISO9001 Quality Standards.
Ability work at strategic level and with strong negotiation skills.
An understanding of Just in Time Manufacturing, Lean six sigma and continuous Improvement leadership.
A Technical Background with a full knowledge of Engineering machining advantageous.
Ability to lead value engineering to drive cost reduction through the business.
Presence, personality, and business skills to be a credible leader internally and externally.
Proven track record of inspiring and leading teams to levels of highest performance because of leadership.
A strategic thinker, with solid financial and analytical skills; experience holding bottom line.
Ability to communicate effectively, both internally and externally, at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines and industries.
Strong ability to work with others in the department to share specific knowledge of products, processes, and/or procedures to continuously make improvements.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with co-workers, suppliers and customers, and other departmental personnel in a professional and positive manner and able to respond commercially to new business opportunities.
Seasoned judgment and mature confidence to make difficult decisions and represent them confidently; ability to maintain a constructive, positive long-term outlook, despite pressure, stress, and ambiguity.
History of credibility in mentoring and forging positive working relationships with the business unit team and divisional staff.
Strong sense of self-awareness, ability to adjust strategies and approaches when needed to achieve the highest level of results.
As Purchasing Manager, it is expected that you will hold a CIPS qualification and ideally be educated to degree level.
