Search begins for UK’s top manufacturing apprentices

Ryan Heath from Gloucestershire based Grail Engineering has scooped the prize of the UK Manufacturing Apprentice for January and receives a prize of £100 Amazon Vouchers. The initiative has been set up by AMI, a web-design & marketing agency that specialises in supporting manufacturers.

Ryan now qualifies for the AMI UK Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year 2018, soon to be joined by the eventual winners of the remaining months of 2018. The competition has been launched to find and recognise the very best apprentices currently working within the UK manufacturing industry.

Julian Grail, Manager at Grail Engineering said: “Ryan is in his 4th year of a 5-year apprenticeship. He has made outstanding progress both academically and with his practical skills. Ryan is always professional, has outstanding communication skills, and is a great ambassador for our company.”

“He has taken leadership in implementing new manufacturing technologies within the business. Specifically, he is our most skilled operator of our state of the art Bystronic CNC 250 tonne press and has played a leading role in bringing into production our new CNC plasma cutter, Ryan is very much a team player and always contributes to continually improving our processes.”

Grail has been training apprentices for over 30 years, bringing apprentices into the business brings fresh ideas and new perspectives. Training their own people also gives them the chance to develop bespoke high-quality training programs to meet their specific needs.

Julian added: “As a growing business, apprentices provide a good means of getting the skills we need and offering young people the chance to get a first class training.”

Grail has been established since 1965, they offer high-quality design, engineering, machining, fabrication, laser cutting, and site maintenance services.  They are unique in being able to offer all of the services their customers need in one place.
