WISE launches its women in STEM Awards 2019

With its latest research showing that improving the ratio of women to men in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) innovation by just 1% has the potential to increase company revenues in that sector by over £300 million per annum, WISE is in search of organisations and individuals who are driving change and improving diversity in their sectors as it launches its 2019 Awards.

The annual Awards highlight the successes of those who are achieving in their sector and are working towards creating greater equality within STEM.

This year will see the introduction of several new categories including;

the WISE Computing Award for a woman in software engineering, data science or data engineering, who loves her work, can communicate her passion to others and will inspire others to follow in her footsteps and take up a role or a degree in Computing.
the Emerging Technology Award for an individual or group working with ground-breaking technology or producing products that could revolutionise the future for consumers and/or corporates.

There is also the Outreach and Engagement Award, for WISE members who can prove that their outreach programmes make a difference to the number of girls choosing maths, physics and computing, and gaining a real interest in careers in STEM

Helen Wollaston, Chief Executive of WISE, the campaign for gender balance in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) said: “Improving gender diversity in STEM sectors isn’t just the right thing to do, research proves there are real benefits to organisations from improved creativity and productivity to increased profitability. We want to celebrate and highlight those organisations and individuals who are leading by example and creating real change in their sectors and work with them to use the power of their Award to continue making a difference.”

The Awards are now open for entry; closing date is 7 June. Entrants will attend an interview judging day in September and the Awards will be announced on 7 November.
