British Offsite to open new factory in Braintree

British Offsite, a specialist build-off-site manufacturing and construction company, has started construction of its new 137,000 sq ft factory at the Horizon 120 Business Park in Great Notley, Braintree. The build-off-site factory is scheduled to open in late 2022 and will employ up to 80 people once fully operational.

The firm sells its exterior building and interior fitout components to house builders, builders and contractors in the construction sector, with clients including parent company Weston Group.

British Offsite was established in January 2019 and the new Braintree building will be an expansion of the company’s existing 75,000 sq ft factory and head office at the nearby Skyline Industrial Estate, enabling British Offsite to dramatically expand the size and complexity of its operations and output.

The new factory’s £6m production line is being delivered by Swedish partner Randek AB and will include a host of new machinery, automation and productivity solutions of which British Offsite will be the first customer in the UK to receive.

When complete, the new facility at Horizon 120 will be used to manufacture and distribute building components for the new homes industry, including the company’s UniPanel system range. The range includes light gauge panels, walls, roofs and floors alongside internal fitout modules, under the BOS Fitout brand, including bathroom components, kitchen and bedroom products.

All of the British Offsite products are designed to be easily integrated into existing projects, with full quality control testing before elements reach site.

Shaun Weston, managing director of British Offsite, said: “We are pleased to have started construction of our new build-off-site manufacturing and distribution centre at Horizon 120 in Braintree which will form a key part of our strategic expansion plans for British Offsite. This new state-of-the-art facility will be one of the largest of its kind within the UK property industry, with one of the most advanced light-gauge steel assembly lines in Europe, meaning we can deliver precise products more quickly for our customers.”

British Offsite has recently completed the construction and topping out of the 14 storey (50 metre high) £53m Victoria Central apartment building in Southend-on-Sea using the firm’s factory-built UniPanel system, completing the envelope of the tower in 30% less time than using traditional building methods.
