Copeland investing £19m to expand Cookstown production plant

Copeland, a US-headquartered global provider of sustainable climate solutions, is making a £19m investment in its Cookstown, Northern Ireland compressor manufacturing facility. This new investment will increase production capacity in order to meet European demand for sustainable low-carbon heat pumps necessary to help address climate change.

The expansion is underway, with completion anticipated by September 2024, solidifying Copeland’s capacity to serve customers more effectively.

The investment includes a 3,500 square metre building expansion including new production lines which will significantly increase both overall plant production, and the flexibility to meet future demand.

Ross B. Shuster, chief executive officer at Copeland, said: “Our Cookstown site, and our colleagues that work there, play a critical role in helping Copeland develop and produce products and technologies that contribute to decarbonisation and the protection of the environment. This new investment in Cookstown will allow us to best serve Europe’s anticipated demand for heat pumps and sustainable air-conditioning technologies, which are crucial for supporting the UK and European Union’s decarbonisation goals.”

This investment marks another significant milestone for the Cookstown facility, which has continued to grow and expand since its opening in 1997. Since its establishment, the plant has produced more than five million compressors and has taken the lead in developing numerous innovations, including Copeland’s first transcritical CO2, low-sound and hydrocarbon R290 compressors.

The company added that this expansion of the Cookstown facility is key to serving its European customers by helping meet the demand for sustainable heating and cooling solutions while driving a focus on innovation, operational efficiencies and world-class quality.
