MTC Conference to help manufacturers drive industrial digitalisation

The fifth annual digital manufacturing conference at the Manufacturing Technology Centre will bring together some of Europe’s leading experts on the digital revolution sweeping through the manufacturing industry. The high level conference is aimed at helping UK manufacturers embrace the latest digital technologies to improve their businesses.

At the two-day conference in November entitled Digitalising Manufacturing 2019: Making Digital a Reality, manufacturing leaders from across Europe will inform delegates that digital advances and smart factories are as much about people as technology. While the fourth industrial revolution opens up huge potential for UK manufacturers, companies have to invest in people and skills to reap the benefits of technology and industrial automation.

The conference at the MTC’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre on November 4 and 5 will aim to give manufacturers support on how to progress the digital journey in their own organisations, based on previous experiences and lessons learned.

Once again the MTC has partnered with Made Smarter, an industry led programme which is aimed at boosting the UK economy using advanced digital technologies including artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, 3D printing, and augmented and virtual reality.

One of the keynote speakers who will take the lead on day one of the conference will be Juergen Maier CBE, CEO of Siemens UK and an acknowledged expert on the digital manufacturing revolution.

Professor Maier said: “Digitalising manufacturing is a massive opportunity to transform our industry into one of the most productive and competitive in the world. If we get it right, we will raise prosperity, increase exports and create more jobs – so let’s get behind this conference which looks at the practical steps needed to transform industry.”

The conference will stress that industrial digitalisation is not an end goal in itself, but a journey. Day one will cover international collaboration opportunities, national policy and practical knowledge and experience to drive industrial digitalisation from within UK supply chains.

Day two will concentrate on the practical steps to put plans into action, answering questions surrounding digital manufacturing, overcoming obstacles and putting forward solutions. As well as presentations from manufacturing thought leaders and experts, the conference will include panel discussions, interactive workshops and digital manufacturing demonstrations.

The MTC’s head of technology strategy for digital manufacturing, Dr Lina Huertas, added: “This is the fifth digital manufacturing conference at the MTC and is now firmly established as the major event in the manufacturing calendar. It is the ‘must attend’ conference for anyone in manufacturing wanting to be part of developing our national strategy in the industry and exchanging best practices and lessons learnt with the community.”

“This event is aimed specifically at end-users and those who will be most affected by the digital industrial revolution. Drawing on the experiences of those who have already begun the process of implementation, the conference will give a clear overview of the progress of digital manufacturing from a manufacturer’s point of view and the way forward.”

The Digitalising Manufacturing 2019 conference will be held at the MTC’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, Ansty Park, on November 4 and 5. To find out more and register for the event visit: www.the-mtc.org/digital2019.
