A brand-new battery manufacturing facility for the automotive industry called UKBIC (UK Battery Industrialisation Centre) is currently looking to employ an Electrical and Electronic Lead. Reporting to the technical manager this key position will be focused on Electrical product activities to support UKBIC baseline products and design evaluation of customer proposals. As lead Electrical engineer the candidate will use their detailed knowledge and understanding of electrical and electronic systems with lithium ion HV rechargeable battery systems and related technology to provide support for customer, development and industrialisation projects.

The Role:

As the Electrical and Electronic Lead, you will be responsible for:
Evaluating design proposals
Review and critique electrical and electronic circuit schematics.
Electrical calculations
Review Risk Assessments
Validations support
Use diagnostic tools, fault finding capability (CAN Analyser -j1939),
Electrical Design, Schematics and data management,
Hardware Design
Component Material Selection Approval
Evaluation of Function and Safety of product
Integration to production and process equipment
Definition/ specification of electrical test limits
Product approval (Electrical aspects)

The Candidate:

>4yrs relevant experience
Degree in Electrical /Electronics Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience and qualifications (min 2:1)
Experience in the design and development of electrical, electro mechanical, or electrochemical products (ideally in the automotive industry, but not essential)
Significant experience in electrical circuit design, HV pack architecture and Battery Management Systems (BMS). Knowledge of relevant software packages is essential.
Ability to work to Automotive quality standards. knowledge of TS16949, ISO 9001 and those specific to battery design and manufacture. Solid understanding of High Voltage High Current batteries and fundamentals of electrical d.c design, charging systems and related technology.
Willingness to travel to visit customers. Driving licence.
Experience of small team supervision beneficial (electrical engineers, software Engineers and harness technicians)
Practical Experience and implementation of electrical functional safety, BMS software (ISO 26262 implementation), regulatory standards validation, Strong communication and reporting skills.
Member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IET, IEEE), ideally Chartered.
