The Business
Operating on a global scale this group has a trading history of 100 plus years.
This UK site is heavy involved in many sectors including Aerospace, Off Highway Automotive, supplying OEM’s like Bentley, Nissan, BMW, Toyota, JLR, Rolls Royce, JCB, Boeing etc
Site T/O: 50m – increasing rapidly next year and the year after

Key Areas of Experience
Experience with Paint Plants /Paint Systems or similar
Experience with Fluid Dynamics / Thermodynamics / Heat Transfer etc
Industry experience can be: Automotive, Aerospace, Off Highway, Commercial or Industrial Construction
Manage a team of 8 growing to 15
Good leadership capabilities displaying an enthusiastic, dynamic approach preferred
Experience with Sales/Proposals and being client facing on site not essential but preferred
Will be required to update the relevant staff in Wariwck with developments in the product range, this requires a monthly get together with HQ in Europe

Overall Objectives
Be responsible for ensuring that the Engineering and CAD Teams achieve all proposals and project programme objectives.

Be responsible for ensuring that technical and programme objectives are met within the allocated project

timing and budget constraints.

Be responsible for the appropriate product selection for individual Projects;

Use of corporate standard and harmonised products;
Feedback from existing facilities;
Research and development (liaison with other Group Companies);
Benchmarking.
As Technical Authority for Engineering and Design, provide mechanical engineering expertise for projects and proposals, ensuring compliance with engineering safety, technical and quality standards.

Ensure use of up to date / Corporate standard engineering tools (CAD etc) to enable effective and efficient engineering in conjunction with Information Systems.

Attend and input into monthly Tech /Ops Dept meetings and input into, with attendance on request, at monthly Management meetings.

Implement a departmental strategy to ensure the future needs of the business are fulfilled.

Report to the Head of Tech Ops on all aspects of project and proposal progress and cost control.

Achievement of Customer satisfaction.

Key Result Areas
Ensure that Engineering and Design teams are appointed for each individual project via Tech / Ops team discussions and resource meetings.

Be responsible for day to day management of the Engineering and Design teams for individual projects, define and communicate to the project team, their roles and responsibilities, ensure they are fully supported and supervised.

Prepare and control timing programme for mechanical project engineering and design activities.

Communicate requirements to project team and ensure milestone target dates are achievable and are met.

Monitor hours worked against project plan.

Be responsible for the departmental liaison between Project Management and Engineering teams to ensure that the needs of the contract specifications are correctly interpreted.

Ensure all mechanical project design and engineering activities are conducted to current company policies and procedures.

Participate in design review meetings throughout the life of a project to ensure design and controlled issue of design/engineering data.

Develop and maintain key contacts with Suppliers and Group to ensure effective transfer of product knowledge.

Coordinate feedback to the sales team and Group to ensure development of products via design improvements.

Provide a technical support to the sales and marketing team and other departments as necessary with regards to development and presentation of engineering solutions.

Reporting to the Head of Tech/Ops on conformance of operating/quality procedures.

Departmental control of administration and management issues relating to personnel within the Mechanical

Engineering & Design Departments, for example:

Performance appraisals, training/development, grade reviews
General personnel issues as direct line manager
Capacity/resource recommendations
Holidays, TMS, expenses
Support HR in the recruitment of both contract and permanent design and engineering personnel.

Perform the role of Project / Lead Engineer where necessary.

Support colleagues in achieving objectives and targets set for the Department.

Required Knowledge and Experience
Understanding of overall business requirements and plans.

Relevant product knowledge.

Ability to understand customer requirements.

Ability to plan project work, prioritise workloads for self and individuals.

Understanding of project cost control & necessity to work within hours targets.

An ability to work under pressure to meet tight targets, deadlines and to be able to support staff to do the same.

Experience of supervising technical and design personnel.

High standard of oral & written communication to converse at all levels within the organisation as well as with inter-group personnel, customers and suppliers.

Ability to build productive working relationships with all internal/external customers.

Commitment to project, team work and decisions made by teams, proven successful team leader
