Our client, a successful injection moulding manufacturer, has retained our services to find a qualified and experienced Engineering Manager to lead an automation team for setting up automation cells supporting NPI and new business entering this leading hi-volume injection moulding company

Job scope:
This post will suit applications with prior knowledge of identifying and designing floor layout change to support NPI, working with external capital equipment suppliers ( IMM, ancillaries, robots, materials handling, bespoke assembly jigs & fixtures, paint & spray jigs ) and co-ordinating Engineering change projects in collaboration with in-house automation & maintenance teams for driving continuous improvement, scrap reduction, optimising production efficiencies and line balancing / work studies. Applicants will have good automation / maintenance / continuous improvement experience for both advising & managing multi-projects.

Role:
Responsible for the effective planning, control and delivery for all automation projects supporting NPI and bespoke automation & capital equipment arenas.
Define and deliver each project in line with its specific contract / customer.
Manage the Engineering Change process and the NPI process in line with company legislation, protocols & project deliverables
Weekly NPI/EC meeting to ensure that EC and NPI is delivered to agreed timeframes, communicating with the department teams to provide updates & promote harmonious communications.
Work closely with the Operations, Production & Technical teams to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of projects, to agreed timeframes and quality standards.
Able to understand customer specifications and requirements, provide constructive challenge to these where required and provide alternative options / coting mechanisms
Work with new and existing sub-contractors & suppliers to identify latest technology and automation modernization method in line with 4.0 Smart automation.
Proactively ensuring safe working environment exists for self and colleagues in line with the Company Health & Safety processes and procedures.
Developing and leading by example the automation engineers, Maintenance & Mechanical Technicians and Assembly team for commissioning / assembly projects

Essential Requirements:
Have demonstratable project management within automation, ancillary, robot, paint & assembly applications.
Proven skills and minimum 6 years within technical or engineering disciplines within  a hi-volume manufacturing environment.
Minimum HND in an Engineering discipline or Apprentice trained.
Previous experience of managing engineering projects supporting new products into production.
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Experience of managing projects with multifunctional teams.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, fluent in English.
Able to build rapport, building relationships with customers and suppliers.
An understanding of working to ITAF16949 highly desirable, – not essential.
Computer literate with Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Motivation and drive to see product through from customer requirement through to manufacture.
Demonstrable experience of managing new product into production successfully
Able to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.

Desirable Requirements:
Strong technical / engineering experience within plastic injection moulding manufacturing automation is desirable, though not essential
Good engineering qualification within a technical / engineering / manufacturing discipline
Good knowledge and modern day understanding of automation, robots, PLC controls, ancillaries, material handing concepts
Will suit either an existing Engineering Manager, Automation Manager, Technical Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Maintenance Manager, or a senior Engineering applicant looking to progress their career upwards.
