The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story – created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Group Engineering Manager, Advanced Production Systems (APS); Themes within Advanced Production Systems include; Automation, Mechatronics and Electronics Manufacturing, Design and Build – with the latter the larger of the teams, focused in disciplines around all aspects of Design, Assembly Systems, and Design for Additive Manufacture.

As a Group Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership and delivery across the Advanced Production Systems theme, within part of the MTC‘s Technology Group.

The Person

The ideal candidate for the role of Group Engineering Manager will:

A strong background in a Design Engineering Management role within manufacturing or Research and Development, preferably within fields of any Electro-Mechanical design, Special Purpose Machines, Automation, Systems-Integration, or other multi-disciplinary field, and be a degree-calibre engineer or technologist.
You will be experienced in coaching, mentoring and development of direct reports, ideally they will be other managers or Senior Engineers across multiple teams,
An empathetic leader, using Radical Candour where required, and practiced in active listening.
Required to drive continuous improvement in technical aspects of the MTC‘s project delivery capability including: behaviours; processes; structures; and, tools
Have an understanding of the breadth of Engineering technologies and their respective manufacturing industrial applications developed across the Technology theme.
You will have a range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role. You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tactical direction of the business;
Where required, advise technical leads and teams on projects to provide technical leadership and guidance in area of expertise (see above) to mitigate issues and risks to achieve a positive outcome for MTC and its customers
An ability to manage relationships with internal & external stakeholders;
Capability in communicating effectively with colleagues at all levels in the business;
A good decision-making capability, demonstrating diligent agility in managing concurrent tasks effectively;

The Role

Group Engineering Manager duties and responsibilities will include:

Leadership and management in the specific areas of resource development, resource deployment and line management of Engineers to Senior Manager Level.
Coaching and mentoring direct reports, and other colleagues as required, is an essential part of your role to support the development of leadership and management capability across the business.
You will contribute to or define the forward strategy for the Resource Management and participate or lead corporate initiatives as required;
You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the management teams within the Technology Group and Industrial Sectors to deliver the corporate objectives of the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional and business unit strategies.
As a Manager in the organisation, you will be involved in debating some of the policies, practices and values that are emerging from within the business and will be required to explain and champion these, and others, to effective implementation.
