Growing business based in Skipton seek to appoint a new Head of Engineering.
Your new role
The Head of Engineering has overall responsibility and accountability for the Engineering team which will include people and project management. Part of the Senior Management Team reporting to the Director of Research and Innovation, the role plays a key part in an exciting and dynamic business. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage a small team and make sure projects are delivered on time. They have the challenging role of managing the operational and development aspect of engineering and experience in these areas is very desirable. They have responsibility for implementing engineering strategy and strategic operational goals for product development, quality, cost and delivery, maximising efficiency, optimising and driving engineering excellence. They will work closely with internal and external key stakeholders regarding technical support of their activities. They will be responsible for all areas of the Engineering function, managing the team and projects across the business and provide clear leadership and vision, inspire and motivate staff to achieve excellence and mentor them as they develop new skills. They will also ensure Health, Safety and Environmental issues are prioritised and facilitate, direct and drive Continuous Improvement within the engineering team. Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and lead the engineering team
• Overall responsibility for Engineering activities across the business
• Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
• Lead the design and development of bespoke components, assemblies and systems
• Manage development projects from early concept phase through design, development, prototype and testing to manufacturing support
• Develop planning and prioritise processes to ensure that resource is well aligned to maximise delivery of projects
• Identify product development, improvements and enhancements
• Effective management of projects to assist in the financial control achieving the required quality, budgets and timescales
What you’ll need to succeed
• Proven ability to manage a team and deliver projects on time
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders at different levels
• Willingness to “get hands dirty”
• A thorough understanding of modern materials and manufacturing processes
• Ability to plan engineering based projects with realistic timescales
Desirables:
• Proficient user of CAD to produce 3D models and 2D Manufacturing drawings
• Strong expertise in mechanical design methodology and product development processes as applied to the full product life cycle
• Previous experience working on electro-mechanical products or systems
• A strong technical mechanical engineering understanding with sound mathematics capability
• Ability to work from first principles
• Knowledge of the practical considerations or geometrical and dimensional tolerance and analysis
