Working for a global manufacturer of high value and bespoke systems for the Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial markets, the Manufacturing Operations Manager will undertake a lead role in the manufacturing operations team and will be responsible for leading a team of Production Supervisors and assembly / production operatives with the ultimate challenge of 100% performance to customer request date.

The Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will lead a skilled team of individuals with responsibility with responsibility for planning, logistics, and assembly and the duties of the role will include;

Meeting on time delivery targets include Warranty/Quality levels, product/overhead cost, inventory control, driving World Class practices through lean activities and achieving clearly defined business goals/targets.
Use levelled production techniques to achieve a consistent `beat-rate` for make to stock objectives.
Drive response times to attain World Class levels of product availability and On-Time Performance targets measured against Customer Request Date.
To attack inventory levels and improve turns to meet company targets though the continued development and expansion of material control systems, including Kanban processes.
To drive down costs covering both material and overheads in an aggressive fashion, through a structured and far reaching process.
To supervise quality improvements throughout the manufacturing and supply base.
To increase the rate of culture change, with greater emphasis on empowerment, and individual/collective responsibility through delegation.
To develop improved plant layouts and implement/oversee changes without affecting customer deliveries.
To operate in a matrix structure – working to create a team and develop common goals at senior level.
Manage and develop the workforce; represent the company in labour negotiations.

The Person

Ideally you will be Mechanical Engineering trained and educated to HNC / Degree level or above and with a solid background in the leadership of manufacturing engineering / assembly teams and will have a strong background in delivering world class production within a demanding environment.

Will have been actively working on shop floor improvement projects and managed shop floor people in a unionised culture.
Demonstrable success using manufacturing-planning and materials replenishment techniques.
Has operated in a Lean Environment and personally implemented Lean techniques.
Trained/developed/assisted and supported employees in the achievement of manufacturing excellence.
Has operated at supervisory level of a manufacturing business – possibly in the automotive industry.
Has demonstrated the achievement of both Business & Personal performance goals.
Preferably working at or worked for an International organisation.
Able to drive results in a best in class environment.
