Our client is a niche automotive design and vehicle builder, currently establishing a presence in the South East. The business is currently undergoing a huge period of growth, with the introduction of new product lines and clients and as a result is looking for an Operations Manager to help scale up production and to support the growth plans of this exciting SME.

As a result the Operations Manager position is key as part of a new start-up operation, including factory and process design, installation and commissioning within very aggressive timing and budgetary constraints.

The Operations Manager will lead and organise the Manufacturing and Operations departments to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently to company standards, targets and objectives.

The role will also be responsible for supporting major change programmes and will need to be a strong people manager with the ability to lead through change.

We are looking for someone with not only relevant experience in manufacturing or operations leadership within an assembly environment, preferably automotive or a related industry, but also someone with the right personality to drive the business forward and become an integral part of its success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leading the operations department, becoming an integral part of the senior management team, managing a team of approximately 50 co-workers.

Ensuring health and safety is part of everyday working practice, including risk assessments, with a safety 1st approach.

Ensuring production achieves Quality, Cost and Delivery targets

Ensuring output meets quality standards of Product Quality through building quality within process.

Direct areas of responsibility include painting of plastic injection parts, assembly, vehicle logistics and warehousing, and planning.

Knowledge of injection moulding, paint processes and mechanical assembly would be advantageous

Supervising and evaluation of performance of production staff

Resource planning and management (workforce, raw materials etc.)

Ensuring that all production equipment is maintained and in safe working order.

Ensuring that production processes are robust and able to cope with future sales growth

Develop and drive a culture of continuous improvement across manufacturing & operations, focusing on quality assurance, productivity outputs and cost competitiveness

Managing operations to yearly budget and set targets

Acting as a mentor and coach to all direct reports to increase staff engagement

Liaising with NPI team to smoothly introduce new products into production

Drive and lead 5S, Lean manufacturing and other initiatives.

ABOUT YOU:

Analytical and numeracy skills, strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

The desire, drive and the character to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) are essential personal requirements, this requires excellent leadership and motivational skills to succeed

A good understanding of Quality conformance requirements and of Continuous Improvement

Good understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of poor quality

An understanding of manufacturing processes

Have an appreciation of wider business demands

Strong PC skills

Ability to work well with others in a team environment, providing input and feedback in a helpful manner

Ability to work to tight deadlines and ability to work under pressure and prioritize own workload as required

Possess an upbeat “can do” attitude with outgoing personality to motivate and lead teams

Proactive and positive approach, with a desire to succeed both personally and for the business
