Michael Page Engineering & Manufacturing is working in partnership with the highly successful global manufacturer Trelleborg, to support them in finding a new Operations Manager for their Rotherham site.

The Rotherham facility specialises in manufacturing bearings and wear rings, using Orkot®, the world’s leading brand in composite bearing material for wear resistant bearings under high load. With over 60 years’ experience in composite bearings, Trelleborg’s Rotherham facility provides a full service, from engineering concept to delivery of a bearing solution for specialist markets such as marine, hydro & tidal power.

Trelleborg has experienced impressive growth in recent years due to their innovation, agility, and an ambition to succeed and are now looking for a passionate, like-minded Operations Manager for their Rotherham site, with a background in a machine shop environment to assist them in driving the business forward.

Job Description
Reporting directly into the General Manager, and a key part of the senior management team, the Operations Manager will be responsible for directing and managing all production activities across the facility.

You will work alongside colleagues in manufacturing, engineering, H&S and quality to plan, deliver and control production performance with a view to not only achieve current performance levels, but also improve these year on year in line with business strategies.

The Operations Manager will foster and promote a culture of continuous improvement, in line with the overall business objectives. This is achieved through the utilisation of leading-edge manufacturing tools and techniques that will deliver best practice across labour, equipment and systems whilst continuing to meet customer requirements.

Main Duties:
Managing the manufacturing of products, on time, in full and to the required standards
Promoting and supporting continuous improvements and company best practice
Driving improvements within the productivity of the manufacturing process, focussing on machine efficiencies and OEE
Improving key metrics such as safety, quality, OTD and profitability
Positively driving behaviours with regards to Health and Safety
Effectively communicating with employees, using empathy and winning people over to ensure all team members are on-board
Driving initiatives to deliver manufacturing excellence across systems, procedures, policies and standards
Acting as a member of the senior leadership team, working alongside colleagues in Technical, Innovation, Finance, Sales and HR
Externally liaising with both customers and suppliers

The Successful Applicant
To apply for the Operations Manager role you will have a background in a CNC or machine shop environment and will have a proven ability in leading and managing teams.

Successful candidates will hold the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve individual and organisational objectives with an influential management style and approach. You will have strong communication skills, be effective at route cause analysis and problem solving, and will be detail orientated.

You will have proven experience in strategic deployment. With a vision for the future and knowledge of how to successfully create and implement a 5-year plan, suitable individuals will be dynamic leaders with a forward-thinking and innovative approach.

Key Competencies:
A sound understanding of a machine shop, CNC milling, turning or routing environment
Experience of improving efficiencies (such as OEE) through data analysis and machine utilisation
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and operational excellence principles, tools and techniques
Ability to operate strategically and forward plan for the factory of the future
Proven ability of effectively managing a team of c.10 direct reports and a wider team of c.100
A Health & Safety mindset with a passion for continually growing HSE culture, creating innovative initiatives to get the teams on-board
Prior experience of launching or working with SAP would be advantageous, but not essential

What’s on Offer
This position will be Monday to Friday, Days Based at the Trelleborg site in Rotherham. Limited travel to other Trelleborg locations may be required on an ad hoc basis.

You will earn an annual salary of between £60,000 to £70,000 (depending on experience) and will be provided with a company car allowance of £8,376 per annum.
