Due to the recent award of new programmes a leading manufacturer of complex assembled products to the automotive sector has a new vacancy for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer. Working with the senior management team you will define & develop new manufacturing lines in the company`s Midlands facilities and develop the assembly process to ensure products produced meet cost, quality and are delivered on time.

The Role:

The company has recently won a number of new programmes that require the planning and introduction of a number of new manufacturing lines. Working with the design teams you will apply design for manufacture principals in the planning and introduction of new manufacturing lines and assembly processes.

Key responsibilities:

Define & develop new manufacturing lines and assembly process including shop floor layout, production cell designs, fixtures and tooling.
Develop the design of fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
Generate production documentation (work & assembly instructions)
Support the installation and commissioning of machinery
Carry out PFMEAs and implement improvements
Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing workflow & layout
Provide manufacturing costs by calculating production, labour, and material costs
Complete design, development and production projects by leading and guiding technicians.
Lead the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities and Health, Safety and Environmental risks
Support new product launches to ensure that supplier quality meets the required standards
Work with the supplier directly, create correction action plans to address process failures
Drive continuous improvement across the facility

The Candidate

Candidates must have previous experience working on the definition, design and introduction of new assembly lines and processes including shop floor layouts preferably in the automotive or high-volume manufacturing sectors. Qualified to degree level (or experience) you will have proven track record of planning, budgeting and on time delivery with a good understanding of production costs and capex investment.
