We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quality and Technical Manager to work for our client at their West Midlands facility, this is an exciting role working across a specialist metals business, involved in all aspects of their Tube and Piping Division, and heavily involved in developing processes and building relationships to enable you to provide a first-rate service to all your stakeholders. This is not just a reporting position, it is for the ambitious person who has the “can do” attitude and will make things happen. As the Division expands more into project work with end users and OEMs the opportunity to broaden experience through increased product offerings and customer fronting is extensive. This will include direct responsibility for certain aspects of individual Project management, extensive interaction with clients, management of a small admin team and the opportunity for travel.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise with our sales team and fellow engineers to ensure customer requirements are communicated to Operations and actions are taken to accommodate these requirements.
Deal with any internal or external quality issues generated from the sales teams or customers to a satisfactory conclusion.
Production of Material Record Book (MRB), Inspection and test plan (ITP) and Electronic master supplier document registers (ESMDR) plus other oil and gas related documents as required
Produce and maintain the Tube and Pipe departments technical reporting. ie NCR analysis in accordance with our ISO 9001 approval and report and present on a monthly basis at the MD’S /QA managers monthly review.
Develop In-House training around tubular products and deliver such to vSM UK staff.
Support the technical team during External Audits for ISO 9001 /45001 and AS 9120 plus customer related audits in areas specific to the tubular department
Carry out internal audits and help maintain the audit schedule
Carry out external audits on suppliers and sub-contractors and help maintain the AVL
Support customers and sales staff during technical queries and support them fully in answering the questions to a satisfactory conclusion
Work with colleagues to obtain oil and gas 1st tier suppliers approval and help maintain it.
Write purchasing specifications and verify all goods received from our chosen vendors are supplied to us as per the purchase specification.
Analyse data to pinpoint areas within the process that need improving and then work alongside Operations / Quality department to ensure the enhancements are made and continually audited.
Be prepared to travel within the UK and abroad to support the sales team on technical issues and help sell and promote the products offered by us.
Have a flexible work attitude to help cover holiday periods and sickness within the technical department
Support and help train graduate engineers in the QA and technical disciplines.
Mentor new starters / staff apprentices in the Technical admin role
Maintaining control and updates of all appropriate specifications applicable to our ongoing business (technical library).
Ensuring accuracy and quality of all test certification and relevant documentation
Responsible for customer audits, inspection visits, customer approvals/registrations etc.

Expedient handling of all technical and quality complaints.
Mill liaison together with customer support, either directly or via sales representatives.
Use laboratory equipment such as hardness testers when necessary
Approve Sub contract requests on the share-point system related to tubular products
Take reasonable care of your own and other people’s health and safety.
Co-operate with your employer on health and safety.
Tell someone (supervisor, or health and safety representative) if you think the work or inadequate precautions are putting anyone’s health and safety at serious risk.
Support the company with environmental initiatives and any compliance issues.
Minimum Qualifications or Experience
Education: Technical HNC/D, or a relevant engineering metallurgical Degree essential
Experience: QA/QC or engineering experience in the Oil & Gas industry preferable.

Additional Information:
35 hours a week on a day shift pattern 08.30-16.30 Monday to Thursday and 08.30-13.30 on Friday, but there will be flexibility on exact working times. Your role will be mainly office based, although you may be travelling to visit other companies, customers, suppliers and/or to attend training, meetings and conferences.
