This business manufacture plastic components to an industrial customer base. Supported by a healthy order book and growing revenues they face some sizeable challenges in their manufacturing operations. Suffering from a lack of people development and some aged assets, the production side of the business is always playing catch up in a fast-paced, short lead time environment. There is capital investment available but only with the right plan, justification and ROI.
The role requires a true end to end manufacturing/operations professional who has the ability to develop a strategic plan but also be on the shop floor with the team, doing, coaching, training and developing.
The role will cover everything from purchasing, production planning, production, pick pack, warehouse and logistics. With a long serving, incredibly loyal and passionate workforce you will need to apply all your emotional intelligence to earn respect and buy the credibility from the team as they have lacked a genuine leader for some time. You will be applying all your manufacturing and production knowledge and skills to get the plant under control initially to build a solid foundation to improve productivity and efficiency in the long term.
Whilst the business is profitable this is really a turnaround scenario but not within an aggressive timescale, it’s more important to develop for the future than cut in the first 6 months.
The role is titled Senior Operations Manager but in truth we are looking for a leader of director capability, and the nature of the business and role allows for that kind of progression, naturally based on delivery and performance.
