A technology development company are seeking a Technical Director within their batteries technology sector. They are looking for a strategic and experienced leader to set-up and deliver a UK wide industrial programme of research, who is experienced in battery systems and other ULEV technologies.

The Role

This Director will lead and be accountable for a key programme within the portfolio. Ensuring the programme meets its objectives and realises it`s expected benefits. Supported by a Senior Programme Manager. You will provide effective, consistent and inspirational leadership of the programme throughout the full lifecycle. Creating and communicating the programme vision, including identification of clear success criteria. Leadership of multi-disciplined teams, both internal and external, across the breadth of the UK economy to achieve deliverables. Accountable to for the significant programme budget and of the programmes governance and effective coordination of all projects within the wider business.

You will appoint, chair and set priorities for the programme board and represent the programme at steering meetings. Being the programme representative at high profile events and meetings. Engaging with senior and executive stakeholders within academia, industry and government to define scope and objectives; addressing issues to support delivery. Monitoring and managing key risj factors to the programme. Auditing and reviewing as required.

The Candidate

Educated to at least Degree level in a relevant discipline, ideally with postgraduate or professional qualifications as well.

A strategic and experience leader, with gravitas and strong ability to build strong, professional relationships. You will have expertise in the field of batteries and other ULEV technologies. Ambitious, focused and capable of developing and leading high performing teams. You must be exceptionally proactive and effective, and be flexible and capable of identifying the right approach to the challenge at hand. Capable of translating that approach to effective delivery.

You will have experience, in a leadership capacity within the batteries industry and in UK wealth creation through the manufacture and exports of electric vehicle battery systems (on and off road, passenger car and freight). A strong familiarity with the research environment in batteries and EVs.

Experience of successfully managing multiple senior and executive stakeholders with conflicting demands and priorities. Have prior involvement in managing significant budgets, implementing cost-control and forecasting in a tightly-controlled environment.

You must be an exceptional communicator, with a high level of professionalism, discretion and tact. Willing to challenge perceptions and offer well-reasoned and considered judgements to all stakeholders. Proven track record at board and executive level is essential.

This role will require frequent national travel, particularly to regional Automotive clusters. There may also be a rare requirement for some international travel.
