The ZenootTV Weekly Show

In this week’s edition of ZenootTV Weekly:

Matt Chilton brings us up to date with the latest news from our sector: BAE Systems signs contracts worth £100m with 5 UK companies for work on HMS Glasgow, the first the new Type 26 frigate fleet. Britishvolt signs a deal with Italian design legends Pininfarina to design their new gigafactory in South Wales. And we dig behind the encouraging headlines that say UK manufacturing sentiment is very definitely in positive territory.

Will Bridgman of Warren Services implores fellow manufacturers to follow his company’s lead and invest in young people right now, even though the temptation may be to cut back on apprenticeship programmes as the pandemic crisis bites. He says if we don’t invest in them now, we risk losing a generation of apprentices. Given that the sector was already facing a skills crisis before coronavirus struck, this is a vital concern for the future.  (06:05)

Dr Steven Barr of Edge Digital Manufacturing discusses his company’s mission to help UK manufacturers get to grips with the challenge of adopting digital technologies. He tells us every company has different needs, and his job is to understand those needs and then guide companies on their own individual digital journey. (14:20)
